Programmable Controllers

SIEMENS S7 PLC’S Level 1

Aims

Level 1 assumes no previous knowledge of Programmable Controllers & is suitable for both Mechanical & Electrical Trainees. Some basic awareness of control & production systems is assumed but is not essential.

Each participant will be guided through a series of structured practical exercises. The initial emphasis will be to gain confidence in the use & understanding of Siemens S7 programming Software.

They are also encouraged to participate in the writing of PLC programmes & also to gain the necessary Fault Finding skills for the modern day control environment.

Ladder programming will be used throughout the course with references to other display formats.

Course Content

  • Understand basic programming principles
  • Access & use the S7 software
  • Set up Hardware configurations
  • Understand basic logic systems
  • Be familiar with Binary numbering systems
  • Fault find on the Hardware & Software
  • Produce Structured programmes
  • Modify, Edit & Document
  • Use both Timers & Counters
  • Create Symbol files
  • Make full use the Search & Find facilities

Certification: An MCP Consulting and Training Certificate will be awarded on successful completion of this course.

SIEMENS S7 PLC’S Level 2

Aims

Level 2 is a continuation for those delegates who may have attended a Level 1 course or those who have some previous PLC experience. It may also be used as a revision course.

Along with the Hardware & Software elements there will be programming & fault finding exercises using conveyor systems & software simulation.

LAD Ladder programming will be used with constant reference to FBD & STL alongside the development & use of the Simatic Manager.

Structured programming will be encouraged throughout.

Course Content:

  • Access the S7 Simatic Manager
  • Provide & understand Hardware configurations
  • Understand Programming Techniques using Block Structures
  • Be familiar with numbering systems including Binary, BCD & Hexadecimal
  • Create & Identify new or used files
  • Produce Structured programmes
  • Modify, Edit, Document & provide/display Symbols
  • Appreciate & use Timers & Counters
  • Create & use Data Blocks, Functions, Function Blocks & Organisation Blocks
  • Use the Search/Find, Monitor/Modify Variables & Status display windows
  • Enable & use the Force Functions

Certification: A City and Guilds 6396-01 certificate will be awarded on successful completion of this course
Duration : 4 days


SIEMENS S7 PLC’S Level 3

Aims

Level 3 is a continuation for those delegates who may have attended a Level 2 course or those who have had previous Siemens S7 PLC experience. It may also be used as a revision course.

The course is designed to explore the additional elements of Step 7 & helps build the confidence required for further program analysis & understanding.

Addressing techniques, System analysis & Profibus Communications are also used to help give delegates a more in-depth understanding of the S7 system.

Course Content

  • Understand the Simatic Manager structures
  • Understand the tree structures of the Hardware catalogue
  • Configure the MPI & Profibus Hardware
  • Control Inverter drives & remote PLC’s on a Profibus network
  • Identify & use indirect addressing
  • Create programs with area crossing elements
  • Fully utilise the available OB’s
  • Modify, edit, document & explore STL programs
  • Use Global & Local variables & declarations
  • Create & use internal labels & offsets
  • Enter Global & Instance Data Blocks
